Ciara recently dropped some tea during her appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. While discussing her hit “Goodies,” the singer revealed that her iconic debut single almost went to another pop superstar—Britney Spears.
“I learned about this later, but they were trying to give my song to Britney Spears,” Ciara said. She was quick to point out that the pop icon wasn’t behind the move, adding, “I know Britney wasn’t the one trying to take my song, because I love Britney.”
At the time, Ciara was a new artist, and the label had Britney in mind, as she was already a massive star. But Ciara knew how special “Goodies” was for her. “That song was my baby. ‘Goodies’ is where everything began for me,” she shared, reflecting on how pivotal the track was to her career.
While imagining what it would have been like if Britney sang the track, Ciara admitted, “I bet you those goodies would have sounded nice coming from her.” But ultimately, she knew the song belonged to her.
In the end, “Goodies” stayed with Ciara, launching her career and becoming one of the biggest hits of the early 2000s. “It’s crazy to think about, but it all worked out,” she added.
