A black Cincinnati cop is under investigation by the department over a Facebook post regarding the fatal shootings of black men by police.
In the post, Officer Freddie Vincent mentioned that white officers “are looking for a reason to kill a black man.” According to Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac, the department is reviewing the post in relation to its social media policies.
“The Cincinnati Police Department strives to maintain a culture of professionalism, as well as transparency and accountability for our actions. I am proud of the work of the men and women of the Cincinnati Police Department and our efforts to work collaboratively with the community,” Isaac said in a statement. “We are aware of a recent post to a commonly used social media site by one of our officers that refers to an interpretation of a law enforcement officer’s actions. The comments that were posted are under review as they relate to our Social Media procedure and our Rules and Regulations.”
In a lawsuit filed last year by Vincent, against the city, Vincent alleged harassment and discrimination by his white supervisors. However, the case was settled in April.
Vincent’s supposed Facebook page is flooded with memes, videos, and wise words about police brutality and the tragedies that have occurred in Louisiana and Minnesota. The officer’s page also includes encouraging messages towards officers and African Americans, urging everyone to spread love instead of hate.
“Never let the uniform change who you are and your God fearing beliefs. It is real out here, and you can’t make everybody happy, but believe in what is right. Know who you are, and be able to sleep with you conscious knowing you did the right thing.”
In another post he wrote, “I know a lot of us are mad, and upset right now. I know you have lost faith in the system, but trying to promote violence against the system will be a massacre…..Violence on violence equals destruction, so fight the system with knowledge…”
The post in question has since be removed from his page. However, Vincent nor his attorney has returned a request for a comment. #Inthenews
