Whenever a new film or documentary chronicling the life of a celebrity comes out, there is almost always some sort of backlash from people close to that person.
For the mother of the late-great Whitney Houston, a new documentary led to a shocking reveal.
According to The NY Times, Cissy Houston was completely unaware that her children were allegedly sexually abused until the filming of “Whitney.”
Patricia Houston, the wife of Whitney’s brother, reportedly had to break the news of the molestation claims to Cissy due to the fact that the allegations would be shared in the film by Whitney’s former assistant.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“It was deeply a revelation for her. You think about her, and it being a bit overbearing for her to hear — and her kids not telling her. That’s pretty tough to have to deal with,” Patricia said.

The alleged abuser is Cissy’s late niece, Dee Dee Warwick. At the hypothesized time, Whitney and her brother Gary, who was also an alleged victim, would have been between the ages of 7 and 9.

Now, in a sit down with PEOPLE, Cissy is giving an emotional statement on the issue.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Dee Dee may have had her personal challenges but the idea that she would have molested my children is overwhelming and for us unfathomable,” Cissy said. “We cannot reconcile the public’s need to know about Whitney’s life as justification for invasion of her privacy or the charge against Dee Dee, a charge which neither Whitney nor Dee Dee is here to deny, refute or affirm.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Cissy began the statement by maintaining her belief that the pain sexual abused victims have to endure is unimaginable. However, according to Cissy, neither she, Dionne Warwick (Dee Dee’s sister), nor her son Gary knew anything about the allegations. Ultimately, for her, they’re unbelievable.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The film’s director has explained that the movie focuses on the “Nippy” alter-ego of the singer, something he feels will allow true fans to resonate with a personal side of Whitney. However, according to Cissy, there is a such thing as too personal.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“IF she was molested I do not believe she would have wanted it to be revealed for the first time to thousands, maybe millions of people in a film,” Cissy said.
Unfortunately, Cissy will likely never know the truth behind the “shocking” allegations. Still, the story is being told.
“Whitney” the movie, is currently in theaters.
