The City Girls sat down with Carlos Watson for the season 3 premiere of his daily talk show “The Carlos Watson Show,” now available on Prime Video.
JT and Yung Miami shared that getting “chopped off” of a Hit Drake song is what let them know they were going to be famous.
JT revealed she’s still “thankful” to the Certified Lover Boy even though “Drake chopped our ass off,” his hit song “In My Feelings.”
She also laughed while imagining that Drake “probably was like, ‘Uh-uh, y’all hoes are not ready for full verses yet, but I’mma give y’all a shot.’”
Instead of using the verses the duo submitted, Drake used them as the song’s interlude, where JT raps “two bad b*tches and we kissin’ in the Wraith” and “I need that black card and the code to the safe.”
While Yung Miami raps, “I show him how that neck work/Fuck that Netflix and chill—what’s your net-net-net worth?”
The Girls also talked about their new HBO show “Rap Sh*t” with Issa Rae, very loosely based on their story and revealed that Missy Elliott is a mentor to them as they’ve grown very close while working with her on new music.
JT shared some of the great advice Elliott has given them about perfecting their craft, “She always has ideas like- ‘Oh, Y’all like Salt –N–Pepa and ya’ll need to do it like this. Ya’ll need to watch this and go back to your history and learn the music that way. When ya’ll go on that stage, y’all need to learn how to interact with each other, and yall can take over everything.”
And that’s just what The City Girls say they plan to do. As Yung Miami told Watson, their ultimate vision is to “be like movie stars or have like a big a** brand.”
