The hair care product line, OGX, has been sued after people claim the company’s products contain harmful chemicals that allegedly cause hair loss and scalp damage.
A class-action lawsuit has been filed against OGX’s parent company Johnson and Johnson, accusing them of marketing toxic hair care products despite being aware of its harmful chemical ingredients, WFLA reports.
“Plaintiff (Larissa Whipple) purchased the Products because of Johnson & Johnson’s uniform false representation that the Products would smooth, nourish, soften, repair, and/or revive her hair,” the lawsuit states. The legal document goes on to say the products caused them to experience scalp damage and baldness.
One of the harmful ingredients in the products’ formula is DMDM Hydantoin, a form of the carcinogen formaldehyde, WFLA reports. The suit goes on to site that when Johnson and Johnson bought OGX products, it failed to remove the ingredient from them. The company removed the chemical from its own products in 2015.
“Accordingly, Johnson & Johnson misled and deceived the public and placed its customers in harm’s way, all for the sake of increased profits,” the lawsuit argues.
