Kevin Durant may be a back-to-back finals MVP and NBA Champion, but according to Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, he “took the easy way out” to achieve the feat.
In a radio interview with 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland, Garrett shared his opinion about Durant’s move to the Golden State Warriors after the team came back from a 3-1 lead against him and the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the 2016 West Conference Finals.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“KD broke the league,” Garrett said of Durant’s 2016 decision. “[Durant] took the easy way out in my mind.”

As he continued, he shot down claims of comparisons between Durant’s move and LeBron James’ infamous decision to take his talents to South Beach.

“It was different when LeBron left,” Garret continued. “He kind of went to [join #DwyaneWade] Wade and [#ChrisBosh] Bosh and it wasn’t something that was already guaranteed, something you already knew was going to have immediate success. You kind of have to jell and work things into place.

“But, with KD, you just stick him in and he scores. You already knew what they had. They were 73-9 before and you put the second-best player in the world on an already all-time great team and of course, you’re going to have success, and pretty easy success.”

He then went on to provide suggestion to stop general managers from building their teams around a handful of star players. But, when asked what he would do now if he was in Durant’s shoes, he says he would stay in the Bay. However, he did make it clear that such a decision would have never been made in the first place, if it were him.

“Me, I’m too competitive to try and ride on somebody’s coattails to get a W,” Garrett said. “But for him, I mean, you might as well stay at the spot you’re at now. There’s no point in leaving since you’ve already taken that moniker where he’s been called the snake and cupcake and all that. You might as well stay and just keep on winning.”
