The NFL is not playing around with their drug policy and if you thought they were, let Cleveland Browns receiver Josh Gordon be an example.
Here’s the deal. Last season Gordon failed a drug test (marijuana) and it wasn’t his first violation of the sort, his prior offense was using ingesting codeine. Gordon was suspended two games and docked four game checks, despite leading the NFL with 1,646 receiving yards. Gordon appealed his suspension August 1 through August 4. His attorneys argued that Gordon tested positive for marijuana because of second-hand smoke. No NFL player was believed to have won an appeal on the grounds of second-hand smoke and unfortunately Gordon would not be the first. Gordon was also arrested back in July for drunk driving so I’m sure that played a part in it as well.
Needless to say Gordon lost his appeal and his suspension was upheld. Not only that, he will be out for at least the entire 2014 season, effective immediately.
