The Cleveland, OH police officer who fatally shot Tamir Rice in 2014 has been fired.
In a press conference held on Tuesday, it was announced that Timothy Loehmann would be terminated effective immediately and that Frank Garmback, the officer who was driving the patrol car, would be suspended for ten days starting Wednesday and required to take an additional tactical training course upon his return.
A grand jury declined to indict the officers in 2015. However, in January 2017, it was announced that administrative charges would be brought against the officers, including a third officer, William Cunningham. The 911 dispatcher that failed to disclose that Tamir could have been a juvenile and the gun he brandished could have been a toy was suspended for eight days in March.
Tamir Rice was shot and killed within two seconds of the officers’ patrol car pulling up.
