CNN has terminated Chris Cuomo for aiding former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in sexual misconduct allegations.
The CNN news reporter received his walking papers on Saturday. The cable network discovered Chris was misleading about his role in his brother’s sexual harassment accusations. The investigation against Chris came after a law firm reviewed documents that showed Chris was more involved in the case than he previously said.
“Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week pending further evaluation of new information that came to light about his involvement with his brother’s defense. We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and have terminated him, effective immediately. While in the process of that review, additional information has come to light. Despite the termination, we will investigate as appropriate,” CNN said in a statement.
Chris’s involvement was reported months ago; however, the details were specified in documents on Monday. The documents showed that Chris worked as an unpaid aid for Andrew while working as CNN’s top anchor. Through text messages obtained by NY Attorney General, Chris allegedly used his press connections to help Andrew’s case.
However, Chris has since responded to the termination news. “This is not how I want my time at CNN to end but I have already told you why and how I helped my brother. So let me now say as disappointing as this is, I could not be more proud of the team at Cuomo Prime Time and the work we did as CNN’s #1 show in the most competitive time slot. I owe them all and will miss that group of special people who did really important work.”
” Cuomo Prime Time” staff and producers will stay employed & Michael Smerconish, Cuomo substitute, will fill in for him next week.
