Border patrol agents in Texas just made a major bust, stopping more than 77 pounds of cocaine from hitting U.S. streets.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced on Monday that officers stationed at the Hidalgo Port of Entry intercepted a 2020 Renault Oroch on Saturday. During a secondary inspection, a canine team flagged the vehicle. Scanning equipment then picked up irregularities inside the car, leading to a deeper search.
“Upon closer physical examination, CBP officers discovered 30 packages containing a total of 34.90 kilograms (76.94 lbs.) of alleged cocaine hidden within the vehicle,” officials shared in a statement.
Authorities estimate the drugs’ street value at approximately $1,027,316.
Port Director Carlos Rodriguez praised his team, saying, “This substantial cocaine seizure reflects the strong dedication of our officers to safeguarding the border, as well as their skillful use of experience and technology.”
The vehicle and the drugs were confiscated, and Homeland Security Investigations has launched a criminal probe into the smuggling attempt.
