Colin Kaepernick made a pretty distasteful comment on Instagram that had everyone at his neck for the entire day. You may recall that several areas in Houston, TX and surrounding cities are completely under water after severe storms over the weekend. Well, though I’m sure he didn’t mean anything disrespectful by it, made a comment on Instagram that was very side-eye worthy. Kaep captioned a photo of a flooded Houston highway with, “I warned you the #7tormsComing !!! #Houston.” Like I said, though I’m sure in his mind it was a good idea and he didn’t mean anything by it, but with 9 people dead, some missing and many without power, now was not the time to poke fun.
Soon after the post his mentions became full of people demanding he take the pic down. He later did, then followed with apologies on Twitter. ”No disrespect intended! Prayers up!’ he tweeted. Later issuing a statement saying, ”I’m so sorry about my insensitive post earlier today. I didn’t fully understand how many people are struggling in Houston right now and I feel horrible. My prayers are with everyone there.” And in case you missed it, he posted to Twitter again, ”Praying for all the people in Houston… Healing is on the way!”
Athletes and celebrities could save themselves a lot of money and apologies if they took the time to THINK before they post. No part of me would think that post was okay.
