On Thursday, Colin Kaepernick became the number one trending topic on Twitter after a tweet claimed he signed a one year deal with the New York Jets for $9 million. However, the news turned out to be false as users realized the tweet came from the twitter page, SuperToughScene, rather than the real SportsCenter.
But, despite the mixup, sources say that fake news may turn into a real opportunity.
According to TMZ, Kaepernick is not only interested in joining the team but believes he’d be a great fit with the organization, which is why he is reportedly planning to reach out to the team.
While at this time there is no word on a real deal in the works, anything is possible, especially now that there’s news about it out there, maybe the Jets will take interest in Kaepernick, the publication reports.
Kaepernick has been out of the National Football League since 2016 when he caused controversy for his decision to begin kneeling during the National Anthem.
The former San Fransisco 49ers quarter back has been training like crazy since November when he told teams to “stop being scared” and make an offer, the outlet reports.
Kaepernick isn’t solely betting on the Jets to pick him up, though. He and his team are open and reaching out to multiple teams in hopes to return to the field for the 2020-2021 season.
