There’s no place like home. After receiving the key to his hometown in Turlock, California, Colin Kaepernick will also be inducted in the Hall of Fame at his former high school.
Pitman High School announced they will be giving the ex-NFL star its highest honor on Nov. 3.
“Colin was chosen, like all the others, for their contribution to the history of athletes here at Pitman,” the school’s A.D., Dave Wells, told KCRA.
“Of course, he was an outstanding athlete and a three-sport star.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Colin led his high school to its first playoff win as a senior, and in that same year, was nominated as an All-State player in football, basketball, and baseball.
Although there has been much controversy surrounding the support of Kaepernick since he knelt during the national anthem, Fortune 500 company #Nike and several professional athletes have stood in solidarity with his vision for equality and justice.
Additionally, former Turlock mayor, John Lazar, says Kap’s fight in with the #NFL and politics doesn’t minimize what he did for the high school.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Colin Kaepernick still has much respect,” he continued. “Although citizens differ on his approach, he is still a proud son of Turlock.”
