Rapper and actor Common is waiting patiently for his one-on-one basketball game with former President Barack Obama.
The 49-year-old “Go” MC joined The Tonight Show Thursday night, where he dished on performing at Mr. Obama’s star-studded 60th birthday party with host Jimmy Fallon. Common joked that he didn’t get the beloved former president a gift but instead “brought my talents to the table.”
Common then revealed that for his birthday a few years ago, his mother, Mahalia Ann Hines, pulled some strings to get him a basketball game against Obama.
“She got me a gift that I was supposed to play President Obama in a 1:1 in basketball. It was years ago, and I never got to fulfill that prophecy.”
The rap veteran previously portrayed a pro-baller in the 2010 hit film, “Just Wright,” has always been open about his love for basketball. He says that he was looking forward to defeating the 44th commander-in-chief.
“I was ready to beat him no matter what. And I wasn’t going to back down because he was the president, or Secret Service is around doing their thing. I was gonna go hard. I’ve got love for Michelle Obama, I’ve got love for the family, but I wanted to beat Barack Obama,” Common stated.
Common and former President Barack Obama have always had a great relationship dating back to his first presidential term. In 2011, Common visited the White House for “An Evening of Poetry” and has long been a supporter of Obama.
