Conor McGregor will not face prosecution over an alleged sexual assault during the NBA Finals in Miami earlier this summer.Â
According to a closeout memo obtained by TMZ Sports, prosecutors said there was not enough evidence to prove McGregor sexually assaulted a woman at the Kaseya Center in June.
In letters sent to McGregor, the NBA, and the Miami Heat after the incident, the alleged victim said the assault occurred after the game inside a men’s bathroom. She said McGregor “aggressively” kissed her” and allegedly forced her to have oral sex with him before she managed to escape.
But after an investigation into the incident, prosecutors said there were “contradicting and/or no corroborating witnesses” and that they viewed CCTV footage from the Kaseya Center that failed to provide concrete evidence of an alleged assault.Â
The footage showed McGregor and his accuser enter a men’s bathroom together for approximately five minutes. Prosecutors said that after the two left the bathroom, they were seen together inside the NBA arena until they went their separate ways at around 12:40 AM.
An attendant, who was in the bathroom when the UFC star and his accuser came in, told prosecutors that he “did not hear any signs of distress or sounds that would corroborate that whatever was occurring was not consensual.”
A friend of the alleged victim also spoke with prosecutors and told them that her friend never mentioned that Conor had attacked her, adding that her friend had called her mother that same night “to tell her she had met” McGregor.
Further more, authorities said that when they spoke with the accuser, she asked detectives if they believed the 35-year-old fighter “would like to ‘settle’ or ‘pay her off’ if she did not pursue charges.”
“In light of the above facts and circumstances,” prosecutors wrote in the memo, “the State would not be able to satisfy its burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.”
“After a thorough investigation, including a review of videos and interviews with eyewitnesses, the authorities have concluded that there is no case to pursue against my client, Conor McGregor,” McGregor’s lawyer Barbara Llanes said, according to Bleacher Report. “On behalf of my client, his family and his fans we are pleased this is now over.”
