Rapper Consequence has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Lupus.
Lupus is a systemic autoimmune disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs, according to the Mayo Clinic. Inflammation caused by the disease can affect several different parts of the body, including your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart, and lungs.
The Queens rapper announced he had been diagnosed with the disease during a listening party on Zoom for his upcoming EP, “Things Are Different Now.” During the event, the rapper revealed that he learned he had Lupus back in June, Bossip reports.
Consequence said he’d been feeling ill for some time before finding out about his diagnosis. He already has Type 2 Diabetes, which put him at a higher risk of catching the COVID-19. Nervous that he might have caught #coronavirus, the rapper went to the hospital to get checked out. That’s when doctors told him he has Lupus. He opened up about the moment, saying that it was “God’s will” that he’s still here and able to make great music, the outlet reports. He said his 9-year-old son, Caiden Mills, also encourages him to keep on pushing.
“He’s really my blessing from God. When it got stupid for me, he was right here like, ‘Yo, come on; you just gotta get your muscles back. Come on, daddy, you can do it.’ He’s my little superstar … he definitely re-charged the Tesla for me.”
Consequence also shouted out Kanye West and Kim Kardashian for helping him find the right doctors. “Shout out to Kanye West + Kim Kardashian for helping me find the doctors that determined my Lupus + Diabetes diagnosis #ConsOffTheCouch #ThingsAreDifferentNow.”
