Balenciaga has caused a stir yet again with its new potato chip wallet.
These wallets have surfaced online and resemble crumpled-up bags of chips, which open to reveal multiple card holders. So far, only images of the black, yellow, and green versions have appeared, featuring the brand’s logo and elements that mimic nutritional facts and ingredients. This quirky release is reportedly part of the brand’s Summer 2025 collection.
The wallets, available in both long and short versions, are accessories to the viral Balenciaga Chips Bag. These full-size purses, which mimicked Lay’s potato chip bags, were introduced in 2022 and retailed for a steep price of $1,750.
With such odd designs in recent years, some have suggested that Balenciaga may be conducting a social experiment to test the limits of what consumers are willing to purchase in the name of luxury. They’ve introduced a $3,300 tape-inspired bangle and $500 safety pin earrings. One popular purse still available on the brand’s website is the Crush Tote Bag, which resembles a black trash bag. This sack is offered in three sizes, with the largest priced at $2,650. The “experiment” theories have only been fueled by Balenciaga’s wildly popular Runner Sneaker, which has become a bestseller despite its strong resemblance to ASICS running shoes, which have only recently become a fashion statement. Many have pointed out that ASICS and similar comfort shoe brands have gained popularity since Balenciaga remixed these styles.
Regardless of the varying opinions, Balenciaga continues to capture the attention of the fashion industry and consumers, for better or worse.
