Jason Van Dyke, the officer who shot and killed 17-year-old Laquan McDonald in Chicago last year, has been indicted by a grand jury. The indictment includes six counts of first degree murder and one count of official misconduct
You may recall  Van Dyke was charged with first degree murder after dashcam video showed him fatally shooting McDonald 16 times. Prosecutors say Van Dyke began shooting his semi-automatic weapon at McDonald no more than six seconds after he got out of the squad car. Video shows that no other officer had fired their weapon.  He was released on November 30 after posting 10% of his $1.5 million bail. Van Dyke, who is now free on bail, is due back at Leighton Criminal Courthouse on Friday.
