Cops Raid Retirement Community, Find Meth Operation And Golf Car Chop Shop

Typically, when you think of a retirement community, you think of a peaceful, low crime neighborhood full of elderly people who just want to enjoy the rest of their lives. However,  one house in Florida flipped that description on its head.

The largest retirement community in the world, a property known as The Villages in Sumter County, was recently housing both a meth operation and a golf cart chop shop. (Yes, file that under things you’d only find in a retirement community.)

After numerous neighbors complained about an unkempt house and suspicious activity, police orchestrated three controlled drug buys at the residence. Those buys led to SWAT obtaining a search warrant and carrying out an early morning raid last week.

Drugs and paraphernalia were found in plain sight in the residence, along with numerous golf cart parts, including windshields, seat cushions, and tires. Five people were taken into custody on drug-related charges, and police are also trying to link them to a string of recent golf cart thefts that have occurred in the community.

The owner of the home is an elderly man who authorities believe had no knowledge of, and no connection to, the the crimes. His 43-year old niece, one of the five arrested, recently moved into the residence and allowed the other suspects access to the home as well.
