An Alabama couple accused of kidnapping and murdering a precious 3-year-old they snatched from a party and dumped in a landfill have been indicted on capital murder charges.
According to People, 40-year-old Patrick Stallworth, and his 30-year-old girlfriend Derick Irisha Brown, were indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury on charges of capital murder of a child under the age of 14 and capital murder for their roles in the 2019 kidnapping and death of 3-year-old Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney.
Kamille was snatched from a birthday party in Birmingham back on Oct. 12, 2019. 10 days later, her body was found in a dumpster in a Jefferson County landfill.
The autopsy report revealed the child died from asphyxiation by suffocation and test results showed she had toxic levels of methamphetamine and anti-depressant in her system.
The couple reportedly drove around in Stallworth’s SUV for hours on the day McKinney was abducted, approaching children and trying to lure them away with candy they purchased from a convenience store.
Both Stallworth and Brown have also been indicted on federal kidnapping charges. They had no connection to Kamille or her family before the abduction.
“We believe this was something they thought about and acted upon. They saw an opportunity to take a young child, and they did,” Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith told reporters at the time of their arrest.
