The parents of Courtney Clenney, the social media influencer accused of fatally stabbing her boyfriend in 2022, have been taken into custody in Texas in connection with the murder case.
According to arrest records from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Kim and Deborah Clenney were booked Tuesday afternoon. The pair were arrested at their Austin home on out-of-state charges from Florida, where the murder took place. Courtney fatally stabbed Christian Obumseli in their Miami condo. The bloody aftermath was captured on police bodycam footage. The crime sparked outrage because Clenney was not immediately taken into custody since the blonde young woman claimed self-defense. However, video and audio painted a very different picture, showing that Clenney had been abusing Obumseli both verbally and physically throughout their relationship. Despite Obumseli being killed on April 3rd, 2022, Clenney was not arrested until August 2022.
It’s unclear exactly how Kim and Deborah assisted their daughter in the aftermath of the crime. However, authorities have confirmed that it had something to do with deleting information regarding the murder. TMZ reported that the couple may have tampered with Obumseli’s laptop after he was deceased.
The couple’s bond hearing is scheduled for Wednesday. Meanwhile, Courtney has been charged with second-degree murder and does not have a bond. An attorney for her parents says the arrests are just a “power play by prosecutors to control the narrative.”
