Cowboys’ Player C.J. Spillman Being Investigated for Sexual Assault

Just when it seemed like we were getting a break from all the bad news piling out of the NFL regarding its players, Cowboys’ C.J. Spillman goes and does something stupid. Spillman, who just signed with the Cowboys this past August, is currently being investigated for sexual assault that allegedly occurred on the night of September 20th at the team’s hotel. Not too many details have emerged on the incident so far except that it occurred at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, TX the night before a game. The woman who accused Spillman is currently being represented by high-profile attorney Gloria Allred.

The Cowboys have said that they will not take any action to remove Spillman from the team until he is charged or arrested for the crime. Head coach Jason Garrett was quoted as saying ““I think you have to be careful with just accusations and allegations in this situation.When someone is officially charged or arrested for something, that’s when it becomes a different situation in our minds. For now, he’s a member of our football team and will take part in everything we do to this point.” The NFL is also currently looking into the incident. 

Regardless of whether or not he’s guilty of sexual assault, I’ll never understand why athletes keep getting themselves into this type of trouble. You would think they would learn by now.
