Chris Brown has been hit with criminal charges over his pet monkey.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the Los Angeles City Attorney is charging Brown with two counts of having a restricted pet without a permit.
In December 2017, Brown posted a video of his daughter, Royalty, playing with their pet monkey. That’s when fans informed Brown that the wild animal posed a danger to his daughter. In response, he told them to take a chill pill.
However, according to reports, a few reached out to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife about the pet monkey, and, in turn, officials launched an investigation.
Brown didn’t have a permit for the monkey, so he voluntarily gave up the pet after authorities got a search warrant and planned to raid his home.
But, in the wake of recent charges, Brown has responded. According to the publication, Brown states that he doesn’t own a monkey or a chimp. The singer says that the video was taken in Las Vegas at a relatives home, the real owner.
Although the monkey was taken in Los Angeles, Brown says that the family member was visiting that particular week.
Chris Brown is due in court February 6th. He could face up to 6 months in jail.
