Ne-Yo’s former wife, Crystal Renay, has detailed what led up to her learning that her superstar husband was cheating.
During Thursday’s “The Breakfast Club” appearance with Tameka Foster to promote their show, “Bold and Bougie,” she opened up about the moment that ended her relationship. Ironically, during the chat, Renay shared that it was her ex-husband’s own appearance on the show that led to her discovering he was having an affair. During that previous July 2022 interview, Ne-Yo said he wouldn’t want to know if his partner was cheating. Instead, he chose to live in “a blissful bubble of ignorance.” According to Renay, after she saw the interview, she went through his phone and found all evidence of his infidelity. This prompted Renay to leave him the same day. Ne-Yo reportedly fathered at least one child with another woman while married to Renay, who officially filed for divorce in August 2022, which was finalized in February 2023.
While their marriage fizzling was certainly a shocker for Ne-Yo fans, there seemed to have been signs for years that there was trouble in paradise.
Renay filed for divorce once before but withdrew it
In February 2020, Ne-Yo and Renay split up for the first time. Sources spoke exclusively with The Jasmine Brand at the time and claimed the two had been having issues for quite some time. He would ultimately file for divorce in March 2020, though surprisingly, they quickly withdrew the paperwork the following month. It seemed that the pair were working on their relationship from that point. They even welcomed their third child, a daughter in June 2021, an indicator that things had improved.
Ne-Yo fathered a child with another woman in 2021
The “So Sick” star fathered a son, Braiden, sometime in 2021 with a social media influencer known as Sade Jenea Bagnerise. Being that he and Renay remained together until 2022, it appears that she accepted the child and the mistakes made by Ne-Yo. However, in July 2022, she slammed him on Instagram for “8 years of lies and deception,” with the second divorce filing following. Considering that Ne-Yo and Bagnerise welcomed another son, Brixton in 2023, it’s clear that their relationship continued even after his wife forgave him the first time.
Renay has nothing bad to say about her ex these days
During a March 2024 chat with People, Renay gave some insight into her feelings about Ne-Yo today. Despite the heartbreak she experiences, Renay stated she had “nothing negative” to say about the Grammy Award winner. “I don’t drag him or talk negative about him,” she added.
Though their relationship was filled with its share of bumps in the road, Renay and Ne-Yo appear to be in a better place while living separately.
