Nxivm cult leader Keith Raniere has been ordered to pay his sex trafficking victims $3.4 million.
120 years in prison is what a judge sentenced Raniere to on Tuesday. On top of that, the criminal will have to pay his 21 victims $3.4 million. The Nxivm cult was an organization that falsely portrayed itself as self-help and forced women to submit nude pictures of themselves, be called “slaves” and act out other crude activities to show their loyalty to him and the organization.
In addition, Raniere and other cult leaders would use “collateral” to compel the women to perform sexual acts. The leaders would also brand the women’s skin with Raniere’s initials. One of the women who received a large award was a woman who was 15 when Raniere started to sexually abused her as a teen.
Yahoo! News reports that Raniere plans on appealing his conviction.
