The premium network Starz will feature The Case of Cyntoia Brown, a limited series based on Brown, the young woman sentenced to life for killing a man when she was 16 years old.

Brown served 15 years and was released early.

The series will also go by her book Free Cyntoia: My Search for Redemption in the American Prison System. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and La La Anthony will executive produce the show, alongside writer Santa Sierra.

Brown-Long and her husband Jamie Long will consult on the project. Power and The Chi star Lala Anthony has supported Brown and introduced the project to 50’s G-Unit Film & Television, Inc, which decided to develop the series under G-Unit’s deal with Starz.

Brown’s story was written by Sierra and detailed the story of Brown, who was sex trafficked by an ex-boyfriend. She was tried as an adult at the tender age of 16 and received a life sentence for robbery and first-degree murder.

Apparently, the fact that she was a minor at the time did not sway her conviction or sentencing. She was ordered to serve at least 51 years of her sentence before she was eligible for parole, which would not happen until she turned 67.

“We’re honored to be entrusted with Cyntoia’s story, which shines a light on the injustice of a system that tried and sentenced an at-risk minor as an adult when she was a victim herself of sex trafficking,” said Christina Davis, President of Original Programming for Starz. “This limited series from Curtis, La La, and Santa chronicles Cyntoia’s long journey to freedom and furthers our #TakeTheLead programming mandate centered on narratives by, about and for women and underrepresented audiences.”

Brown was granted clemency and was released in 2019 after gaining attention from prominent figures like LeBron James, Kim Kardashian, and Rihanna. Her case also helped state legislation focus more on protecting minors who are sex trafficked.
