During an appearance on The Shop Uninterrupted, Da Baby reflected on the controversial homophobic comments he made in 2021, saying he would do things differently if possible.
The Charlotte, North Carolina, native talked about when he offended the LGBTQ community with comments he made during his 2021 Rolling Loud performance.
He admitted to Maverick Carter that he wished he would’ve handled the situation differently and regrets how it unfolded.
“Absolutely,” DaBaby said. “That’s what came out my own mouth and said as of late, not even as of late, I would maybe handled it the way he handled it. I apologized, but I didn’t mean to apologize because I’m this type of person.”
“I’m gonna fight to the tooth and nail, like if I, you know what I mean? My character and my intentions – that’s something I am never going to let you make me out, I’m not a bad person. I’m unfaltering on that.”
DaBaby disappointed many after he made controversial comments at the 2021 Rolling Loud performance in Miami. He referenced his fans in the LGBTQ community and sexually transmitted diseases, saying, “If you didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die in two to three weeks, then put your cellphone lighter up,” he told attendees at the time. “Ladies, if your pu*** smell like water, put your cellphone lighter up. Fellas, if you ain’t sucking dick in the parking lot, put your cellphone lighter up.”
Although he tried to clarify his statements after the incident, the damage was done. He was ousted by several music festivals and other fellow music artists, including Dua Lipa, Elton John, Questlove, and more.
He attempted to issue an official apology on Instagram but stirred the pot even more after deleting the post days later.
