During a recent interview with Shannon Sharpe, DaBaby said losing $200 million due to his homophobic remarks at Rolling Loud Miami was a costly but teachable lesson.
“In hindsight, that parked me,” he said on the Club Shay Shay podcast Wednesday. “Who is to say where I would be mentally and spiritually had I not been forced to sit my ass down and self-reflect? Because I still didn’t sit down when the incident took place. I’m fighting like, ‘Hell nah, that ain’t what it is. I’m telling y’all that ain’t what it is.’ God knows I’m a good fighter, but he was like, ‘Yeah, you a good fighter, but sit yo ass down.’”
He continued: “I don’t regret anything that I done been through. It feels so good to be able say that and mean it. I done probably said that before but I ain’t mean it. It’s like ‘Boy I wish I had […] $200million, y’all robbed me.’ I don’t feel like that. I really feel like that’s a blessing in disguise at this point in my life and I just came to that realization in the past two weeks.”
The rappers homophobic remarks at Rolling Loud Miami in 2021 sparked national outrage, drawing criticism from fans and public figures.
In July of the same year, he issued a tweet apologizing for his comments.
“Anybody who done ever been effected [sic] by AIDS/HIV y’all got the right to be upset,” he wrote. “What I said was insensitive even though I have no intentions on offending anybody. So my apologies. But the LGBT community … I ain’t trippin on y’all, do you. y’all business is y’all business.”
