Dallas Cowboys Players Face Multi-Million Dollar Lawsuit Over A Near Drowning

Dallas Cowboys Cornerback Brandon Carr, Wide Receiver Miles Austin and Defensive End Anthony Spencer are being sued by parents of the young man who almost drowned while in a swimming pool during a football camp. Cowboys Anthony Spencer’s Football camp was held at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas and this was an overnight camp. The camp’s sponsor Sports International Inc. is also being sued for $1 million dollars. The incident happened around 9pm on July 11th the young man was seen floating at the bottom of the pool, pulled out of the water immediately by a lifeguard, given CPR and was taken to a hospital nearby.

According to the Dallas Observer, the rationale for suing the football players, as described in the lawsuit: The camp was called the Anthony Spencer Football Camp. Their son was promised face time with “Anthony Spencer and current and/or former members of the Dallas Cowboys.” Thus, the camp was “supervised by and subject to the control of” Spencer and his teammates, who negligently allowed the campers to swim at UNT’s pool. Even though the young man survived he is permanently impaired and disfigured. There were five lifeguards present for the 100-125 kids in the swimming pool and it is unknown if these three players were around when the drowning happened. We shall see how this lawsuit will turn out.
