It was announced Thursday that the Dallas Cowboys have added New England Patriots quarterback Joe Milton III to their quarterback room. Milton and a seventh-round pick were sent to Dallas in exchange for a fifth-round pick in this upcoming NFL Draft.
The Dallas Cowboys’ rumors of shaking up their quarterback room had, up until this point, been just talk.
Milton had an impressive game to finish the season against the Buffalo Bills. In an otherwise irrelevant game to end the season, the former Tennessee quarterback threw for 241 yards and a passing touchdown. He also scored a rushing touchdown, briefly showing his ability to scramble out of the pocket.
Many people around the New England franchise did not view Milton as an ideal backup for second-year starter Drake Maye this upcoming season. With the hiring of head coach Mike Vrabel, changes were bound to happen. This is a high-value pickup for Dallas—a good bargain and a low-risk, high-reward situation if Milton can deliver when called upon.
Milton has one of the strongest arms in the entire league and has shown flashes. We reported a few weeks ago that quarterback Dak Prescott could be on the move to the Cleveland Browns. As the NFL Draft creeps closer, it’ll be interesting to see if Dallas makes any other moves in anticipation of making a splash at the end of April.
