NFL player Dalvin Cook has been accused of being involved in a domestic violence incident with his ex-girlfriend.
Cook’s ex-girlfriend, Sgt. 1st Class Gracelyn Trimble says the Vikings player held her hostage and physically abused her during an altercation between the two last year. The woman accuses Cook of “giving [her] a concussion, leaving a scar on [her] face and taking me through hell,” the New York Post reports.
The alleged domestic violence incident happened on Nov. 19, when Trimble flew to Minnesota to break it off with the athlete. She claims in her case filing that when she asked Cook to help her gather her belongings, he began physically assaulting her.
He “grabbed her arm, and slung her whole body over the couch, slamming her face into the coffee table and causing her lower forehead and the bridge of her nose to bust open.”
According to claims, the two ended up getting into a tussle, which included Trimble attempting to mace Cook. Trimble says in her suit that Cook was able to overpower her and assault her again. At some point, Trimble was able to get away into the running back’s bedroom, the news outlet reports. Trimble then allegedly grabbed Cook’s gun and called a friend; she claims Cook threatened to beat her with a broomstick.
Cook took Trimble to the airport the next day; she went to a hospital in Florida to recover from the injuries she allegedly sustained from the incident. She says she was told that she had a concussion. The New York Post reports Trimble to medical officials that she got the injuries from an ATV accident. Texts allegedly from Cook to Trimble allegedly said: “I know what I did can be rewind…If you wanna go to the police I’ll respect that I’ll take my punishment for what I did!”
In a statement, Cook’s lawyer claims his client was the victim in the matter. “While Mr. Cook and Sgt. Trimble had a short-term relationship over several months, she became emotionally abusive, physically aggressive and confrontational, and repeatedly attempted to provoke Mr. Cook,” said David Valentini. Cook says Trimble came into his home without his consent and then proceeded to punch and mace him. She allegedly then held him hostage at gunpoint.
“We are confident a full disclosure of the facts will show Mr. Cook did nothing wrong and any injury Sgt. Trimble may have sustained that evening was the result of Sgt. Trimble’s own unlawful conduct,” Valentini said.
