Damar Hamlin is paying tribute to the medical team at the hospital who assisted him when he suffered cardiac arrest on the football field ten months ago.
In January, Hamlin experienced a cardiac arrest following a tackle during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He was promptly transported to a Cincinnati hospital by ambulance and remained in the intensive care unit for one week. On Saturday, the NFL player announced he’s launching a scholarship program for young people in Cincinnati.
“Last night I had dinner with my heroes. 10 of the UC Medical Staff that helped save my life,” Hamlin said on Twitter.
As per a news statement, the “Cincinnati Heroes Scholarship” introduced by Hamlin will provide support to economically disadvantaged high school and college-bound students, enabling them to pursue education at private high schools, trade schools, or universities within the region. Hamlin expressed his deep appreciation for the chance to recognize the medical professionals who aided him, specifically three of them who administered immediate care when he collapsed on the field, referring to them as “my Cincinnati heroes.”
“Because of what happened to me, I’m working to make sure that kids across the country have the same access to life-saving care that I did if they need it,” Hamlin said.
The Chasing M’s Foundation website has indicated that additional information regarding the scholarships will be revealed in the forthcoming weeks. This information will encompass the specific requirements, criteria, and guidelines for students who wish to apply. The program is set to grant $1,000 scholarships, with one scholarship being awarded in the name of each of the 10 individuals apart of Hamlin’s medical team. The foundation is committing to providing $10,000 annually for a duration of three years to support this initiative.
