Dame Dash is back in the headlines, seemingly offering his stake in Roc-A-Fella Records, despite a court ruling prohibiting the sale of JAY-Z’s debut album “Reasonable Doubt.” On Friday (July 19), Dash took to Instagram, posting a picture of the iconic album alongside a promo photo featuring himself, JAY-Z, and Roc-A-Fella’s third founder, Kareem “Biggs” Burke. In the caption, Dash wrote, “This shit is for sale 1/3 … only real inquiries only.”
Back in 2022, a court ruled that while Dash couldn’t sell any part of JAY-Z’s classic album without Roc-A-Fella’s permission, he was allowed to sell his one-third stake in the overall business. The judgment stated that Roc-A-Fella Records owns all rights to “Reasonable Doubt,” and Dash is prohibited from selling or altering any interest in the album, including through NFTs, unless authorized by the label.
The legal battle began when Dash attempted to auction a stake in “Reasonable Doubt” as an NFT in 2022. He later reached an agreement with Roc-A-Fella, allowing him to sell his ownership interest in the company but not the album itself.
It’s still unclear if Dash’s recent Instagram post implies he’s trying to sell a part of “Reasonable Doubt”—which he can’t do without Roc-A-Fella’s approval—or his entire stake in the label.
In related news, Dash recently addressed his long-standing issues with JAY-Z during an interview with the Ugly Money Podcast. He claimed he’s willing to speak the truth about their past, suggesting that others are afraid to do so. Using a colorful metaphor, Dash compared their fallout to a drug deal gone wrong, emphasizing that he feels wronged by JAY-Z’s actions in their business relationship.
