Damson Idris says he thinks about the day that he’ll have to leave his Snowfall character Franklin Saint behind: “I’m sure, some way, there’s people out there who will still call me Franklin no matter what work I do.”
On February 17, the cast of Snowfall hit a magenta-colored carpet to celebrate the show’s fifth season. Isaiah John, who plays Leon Simmons; Michael Hyatt, who plays Cissy Saint; Angela Lewis, who plays Aunt Louie; Amin Joseph, who plays Jerome Saint; Gail Bean, who plays Wanda Bell; Carter Hudson, who plays Teddy McDonald and the show’s lead, Damson Idris, who plays Franklin Saint, all made their return. The Snowfall carpet also welcomed Devyn Tyler as a newcomer to the series; she will play Clarice in the upcoming season.
As the action-packed Los Angeles-based drama enters its fifth season – a feat many shows hope to reach – the show ending at some point is already on some of the cast members’ minds. Particularly Idris, who says he’s already thinking about the day he’ll have to leave Franklin behind.
“I think about it a lot,” Idris told Baller Alert.
“I’ve spoken to friends who have been on shows. I spoke to Idris Elba about when he had to leave Stringer Bell behind,” Idris explains, referring to Elba’s role on the hit HBO series The Wire. Idris goes on to say that he knows fans will always keep the spirit of Franklin alive.
“It’s really like; it’s like it’s my brother. He’s a guy I’ve been rooting for and riding for, for nearly seven years now. I got the part in 2015. But, I’m sure some way, there’s people out there who will still call me Franklin no matter what work I do. So, I guess he’ll always be with me some way.”
In addition to leading the show, Idris will also take on the role of producer, a position he says he’s always wanted to be in creatively. The actor said he plans to influence the show as a producer by learning as much as he can and “staying true to John Singleton’s vision.”
“I don’t know it all, and I don’t pretend to,” says Idris. “This season was brilliant. It was a real learning curve for me as a producer because I had the opportunity to ask questions that I didn’t ask before and understand that it’s not just about me. It’s about this whole picture. Going forward, I hope to produce more because my calling is to create opportunities. So, I’m really happy I was given the opportunity to produce.”
Season five of Snowfall hits screens Wednesday, February 23 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX. Be sure to check out the rest of the cast interviews on BallerAlert.com.
