The professional football team for Washington D.C. is lawyering up in anticipation of a major bombshell story from the Washington Post that would expose the team’s “toxic culture” and “dark past.”

The NFL world is waiting on a Washington Post story that is supposed to air out the former Washington Redskins team’s dirty laundry. The article was expected to drop on Tuesday but was later pushed to Thursday. There are no details on what exactly will be in the article, but the news has made the owner of the Washington team, #DanSynder, start trending on Twitter.

The team has already been in the headlines over its racist team name and its plans to finally put it to rest, but now the article is expected to topple over the name change.” Working my sources, but apparently changing of the Redskins name will be old news come tomorrow when a bombshell report is expected to surface,” said John Gonzalez of ABC7 Wednesday night. “There’s growing buzz that unflattering news about organization could come out in just hours.” This all comes after Dan Steinberg posted a collection of tweets on Tuesday that hinted at the team’s alleged “toxic culture.”

“The warped and toxic culture of the Washington Football Team is about to be exposed in a sickening fashion . . . Again,” wrote Jason La Canfora of CBS, who once covered the Washington beat for the Washington Post. “What’s coming is disappointing and sad,” said Julie Donaldson of NBC Sports Washington in another post. Another tweet came from Scott Abraham who wrote, “There is much more going on . . . then a name change. . . . And it’s not good. I did not get specifics, but get ready people.”

Former Washington cornerback #JoshNorman also released a few tweets about the team drama. “Look, Don’t ask me NO QUESTIONS! .. (69) but I will say this, what goes around comes around.. What’s done in the dark will surely come to the Light! God seems to always have a way of reposition his people at the right time & reveal Truths without saying a single – word,” wrote Norman.

Last week, the team announced that it would be changing its racist name following years of outcry and criticism. While the team is now making a progressive move, the team’s history speaks to the current claims against them that the team has continuously been an ally to racism, inequality, and discrimination. In 1961, the Washington team was the only NFL team without a Black player, and they were the last team to integrate. There was much speculation that the team intentionally denied Black players even when they had the option to pick them up.
