Country music star Darius Rucker can now breathe a sigh of relief after being sentenced to probation following his no contest plea to a drug charge.
After his arrest earlier this year, Rucker has avoided jail time and will instead serve 11 months and 29 days of probation. He pleaded no contest to one count of simple possession of a controlled substance. Rucker’s legal team has expressed gratitude for the thoughtful handling of the case by the judge, the District Attorney’s office, and local law enforcement, and praised the respectful treatment he received throughout the process.
In February 2024, the “Wagon Wheel” singer was booked on two counts of simple possession/informal exchange of a controlled substance and one count of violating Tennessee’s vehicle registration law, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. He had been initially pulled over for expired tags in February 2023, during which authorities discovered marijuana and psilocin in his car. Although he was released without charges at that time, a warrant for his arrest was issued in December 2023, and he turned himself in two months later. Rucker was subsequently released on a $10,500 bond.
If he successfully completes all probation requirements, the charges are expected to be expunged.
