Following the immense backlash from his latest comedy special, Dave Chappelle says he’s willing to have a talk with Netflix employees about their concerns.
Netflix employees and LGBTQ+ advocates have slammed Chappelle over the transphobic remarks during the controversial special titled “The Closer.” The outrage reached a boiling point when Netflix employees staged a walkout on Wednesday to demand that the streaming platform remove the special.
The 48-year-old said he is open to speaking with Netflix staff but has not been contacted about having that conversation.
Ashlee Marie Preston, who helped organize the walkout, insists she had previously invited the comedian to speak about his offensive comments. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos defended Chappelle and has stated that he will not be removing the special.
Particularly offensive comments were his jokes on trans-women not being “natural women.”
Laugh Factory founder Jamie Masada has expressed his support for Chappelle and has called for other comedians to rally around the actor and creator.
