Attendees of a recent Dave Chappelle show was not pleased with some of the topics he chose to discuss.
On Thursday, it was reported that some audience members exited the event when Chappelle voiced criticism towards Israel’s airstrikes in Gaza and expressed his view of students who support Palestinians.
The Wall Street Journal initially reported that during Chappelle’s show, some audience members voiced their support for his comments by shouting “Free Palestine.” Meanwhile, others questioned his stance with shouts of “What about Hamas?” This led to certain individuals choosing to leave the event.
The exchange with the audience unfolded following Chappelle’s stating that students should not face job repercussions for their support of Palestinians. According to reports, a member of the audience responded “shut up” after his statement, prompting Chappelle to make further statements about Israel.
“The audience was cheering Chappelle on during his tirade. I was sick. We were sick. I turned to my friends and wife and said, ‘I think it is time to go,’” one attendee wrote on social media. “We walked out and met up with many other Jews leaving the show. Never in my life have I felt so unsafe and so fearful of what I was witnessing.”
Nevertheless, a spokesperson for Chappelle contradicted the reports by stating that he “denies being in Boston” that night, despite the fact that the Thursday event was one of the planned stops on his tour.
