During a recent conversation with The Big Homies House, host Big Homie Kodaq asked Davido what he thinks about African Americans who want to live abroad in the motherland. Davido quickly questioned, “Leave America and go where?” before detailing the issues in the continent, specifically in Nigeria, where he was raised after being born in Atlanta, Georgia.
“It’s not cool back home…The economy now is in shambles,” he explained.
Davido admits that while he does not often show his fans the “slums” when he travels throughout Africa, there are issues that Americans may not be equipped to handle in Nigeria and the continent as a whole.
“The economy now is in shambles…the exchange rate is messed up. A lot of stuff not going well. You know what I’m saying? The economy is just not good anymore. The oil prices are too high,” when speaking of Nigeria.
The 31-year-old says, “Entertainment is one of the things that’s made Africa look good.” Davido’s roots run deep in Nigeria, where both of his parents were born, a key reason they decided to raise him there rather than in the United States. Now dividing his time between both, few are as well-acquainted with the unique blend of cultures and conditions as he is.
