Dawn Staley has shattered records yet again. The University of South Carolina (USC) Board of Trustees has approved a groundbreaking contract extension for the legendary coach, making her the highest-paid women’s basketball coach in the country.
The new deal, which extends through the 2029-30 season, includes a $4 million annual salary, a $500,000 signing bonus, and an annual $250,000 escalator. The contract’s total value is approximately $25.25 million, cementing Staley’s legacy as one of the sport’s most accomplished figures.
“Dawn Staley is a once-in-a-generation coach who has made a tremendous impact on the University of South Carolina,” said Athletics Director Jeremiah Donati. “She has elevated the sport of women’s basketball on the national level and here on campus, and I am excited that she will be representing our University for many years to come.”
Since joining USC in 2008, Staley has transformed the Gamecocks into a powerhouse program. Under her leadership, South Carolina has claimed three national titles, tying them for third in NCAA history behind UConn and Tennessee. The Gamecocks are one of only two programs to achieve multiple 40-game win streaks and have appeared in six of the last nine NCAA Final Fours, including the last four consecutive tournaments.
“I’m proud to represent the University of South Carolina and of its investment in women’s basketball,” Staley said. “What we’ve been able to accomplish on the court is a testament to what can happen when you bring together the right people and have the right commitment from the University, the Athletics Department, and the community. I look forward to continuing to be an example of how an investment in women’s basketball is one that will pay off for everyone.”
Staley’s success has not only elevated South Carolina’s program but has also propelled women’s basketball to new heights. Her commitment to excellence and her ability to inspire both players and fans have made her a transformative figure in the sport.
