Two Missouri daycare workers have been formally charged with child abuse after they were seen on video throwing a 3-year-old girl across a classroom.
The two women were allegedly injuring children in their care in incidents that occurred in February at the Brighter DayCare and Preschool in Pine Lawn.
North County Police announced in a Facebook post that the women had been charged.
Wilma Brown 27, was recorded on video throwing a 3-year-old girl across the room in a fit of rage sending the young child crashing into a piece of furniture. The child suffered a serious head injury on February 1, and the young girls’ family released the video to the media earlier this week.
The child had a large gash on her head and was taken to the hospital where she received seven stitches.
The family told NBC News, through their attorney Jennifer Hansen, that they “wanted the video released to the public to get justice for the little girl.”
“This sweet little girl is getting lots of love and support from her family while she heals from her injuries. Her family hopes that the release of the surveillance footage will result in justice for this child and ensure that other children are not harmed by the very people entrusted to keep them safe,” she said.
Brown and another worker, Ariana Silver, were charged with felony child abuse. Silver 22, was charged for a separate incident, that occurred on February 4.
Silver allegedly grabbed a 4-year-old girl by her leg, breaking the child’s skin with her fingernails before carrying the toddler by her foot to a cot where she then dropped her down aggressively. Police said that incident was also caught on video.
Silver has been arrested and is being held on a $50,000 cash bond, while a warrant is still outstanding for Brown.
According to a statement made by the daycare’s attorney, both women are no longer employed at the daycare.
