DC announced Monday that its new Superman will come out as bisexual in an upcoming series.
Jon Kent, son of Clark Kent, whom many know as the original Superman, will come out as bisexual and enter into a relationship with friend Jay Nakamura. This will be revealed in the November 9 issue, Superman: Son of Kal-El #5.
“I’ve always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes and I’m very grateful DC and Warner Bros. share this idea,” Superman: Son of Kal-el writer Tom Taylor, said in the announcement. “Superman’s symbol has always stood for hope, for truth, and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics.”
This announcement, which was revealed on National Coming Out Day, comes as the comic book industry continues to work to increase LGBTQ+ representation. Earlier this year, Robin, Batman’s famous sidekick came out as bisexual and it was announced that Aquaman’s newest series stars a gay Black man.
