Even after his tragic demise, 15-year-old Jordan Edwards still continues to live on through others.⠀⠀
‘Dear White People’ actress Logan Browning recently announced that the cast and crew of the Netflix-exclusive series have established The Jordan J. Edwards Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund in honor of the fallen Texas teen.
In April of 2017, Edwards was shot and killed by an officer in Balch Springs, Texas, as he was leaving a house party with four friends in a vehicle driven by his older brother. The incident reportedly took place while authorities were responding to a call from a neighbor about “underage drinking” at the party.

Moments after taking off from the home, an officer fired a rifle inside of the moving vehicle and struck Edwards–who was sitting in the passenger seat, directly in the head. Unfortunately, the teen died upon hospital arrival.

The devastating killing happened around the season one premiere of ‘Dear White People’, which is why the show’s team felt compelled to act on this matter.

The Jordan J. Edwards Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund has been set up at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After graduating from Mesquite High School, Edwards’ dream was to attend the school and play for its esteemed football team. He also had high hopes of obtaining his degree from there and going on to become a pilot.

Sadly, Edwards will never have the chance to, but with the fund, the administrators hope to remember the teen by providing others the opportunity to do so in his memory.

According to the fund’s website, the mission is to “promote the education of deserving undergraduate students who enroll full time” at the university.
