Earlier reports noted that Def Jam shelled out more than $35K for DMX‘s star-studded memorial service, however sources close to the situation revealed the late rapper’s record label actually dished out much more. In addition to funeral home expenses, the label covered renting out Barclays Center, plus production which actually ran around $300K.

According to the beloved “How’s It Goin Down” rapper’s probate documents, Def Jam Recordings took care of the bill from Brooks Memorial Home Inc. in Yonkers, NY.

The tab included the price of the stunning customized red casket that held DMX’s body, which was $7,450. The payment also included the transfer of X’s body to the funeral home, embalming, the hearse, and floral arrangements. It is unclear if the hearse mentioned is the massive tricked-out monster truck that chauffeured the casket to Barclays Center celebration of life in Brooklyn. The funeral home’s bill totaled at $35,228.13.

DMX passed away on April 9th, 2021, following an overdose that left him on life support. Since then, his posthumous album “Exodus” was released, which debuted in the top 10 on the Billboard 200. With the album’s release came a slew of new issues, with his family now battling over his estate.
