The defense has rested their case in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who’s on trial and charged with the murder of George Floyd.
According to The Hill, Chauvin’s legal team decided to rest his case after the former police officer invoked his 5th Amendment right on Thursday morning before jurors had even taken their seats in the courtroom for the day.
The defense only called seven witnesses compared to the nearly 40 witnesses called by the prosecution during the first two weeks of the trial.
The court is now expected to hear closing arguments from both sides on Monday.
