Another arrest has sadly been added to Delonte West’s troubled history.
The former NBA guard, whose career was marred by personal struggles, was arrested on November 2nd for trespassing in Fairfax County, Virginia. According to TMZ, the Fairfax County Police Department reported that West was banned from a portion of Huntington but refused to leave, leading to his arrest after a video surfaced corroborating the complaint. Just one day later, a warrant was issued, and the 41-year-old was arrested near the Huntington Metro station around 8:48 p.m.
This is another heartbreaking chapter in West’s ongoing battle with legal issues, mental health, and substance abuse. He was held on a $1,000 bond and released on November 3rd, but his struggles continue. He faces a misdemeanor charge with a court date set for January.
West’s NBA career, which saw him play for four teams across eight seasons, included moments of promise, but his personal battles have overshadowed his athletic achievements. At one point, he earned $16 million in the league, averaging 9.7 points and 3.6 assists per game. Yet, despite his fame and fortune, West’s life has been plagued by a series of legal troubles.
In June 2024, West was found unresponsive after a medical emergency following another arrest in Virginia, where he was accused of resisting arrest and violating release conditions. Narcan was administered due to a suspected opioid overdose. This followed his previous struggles with substance abuse, mental health issues, and bipolar disorder. In 2021, he was arrested for disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest without violence. And earlier, in 2016, photos of him panhandling in Washington, D.C., and walking in a hospital gown in Houston shocked fans.
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban had helped West enter rehab in 2020, offering hope for a recovery. Yet, just a year later, West was arrested again in Florida, this time banging on police headquarters’ doors while holding an open bottle of vodka and beer.
The NBA world last saw West play in the 2011-12 season with the Mavericks after stints with the Celtics, Cavaliers, and Seattle Supersonics. West was drafted No. 24 overall by Boston in 2004.
