Delonte West says he is doing OK, but “in-between jobs” after a video of the former NBA appearing to be panhandling went viral last week.
In response to the clip, West told Image Direct, “It is what it is,” West said. “I got children. I’m in between jobs. People can help me as much as they can, but you know, as a man, I gotta do what I gotta do for my babies.”
The ex-Mavs player tried out for the Big 3 league this past year, however, he didn’t make the cut.
“I was excited to have the opportunity,” West said, “I’ll be there next season. I’ll be there rooting guys on.”
He also shared that in the past three seasons he worked as a scout for the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics. He hopes to land a coaching role with an NBA team soon.
The 38-year-old spent his eight-year NBA career with the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers. He last appeared with the Dallas Mavericks for the 2011-12 season.
