Delta has announced that it will soon begin offering direct flights to Tulum, Mexico.
The airline will be the first U.S. carrier to send flights straight to the city, which has become extremely popular in the past few years. Currently, most travelers have to fly into Cancun’s international airport and then be shuttled to Tulum. Now, with the new Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport near completion in the city, passengers will have the convenience of starting their vacations as soon as they arrive.
The highly anticipated airport will open its doors before the end of 2023. With the municipality becoming so adored for its aura of relaxation, Mayan ruins, and beachside nightlife, Tulum has long needed its own hub. This will also alleviate some of the traffic coming into Cancun International Airport, which sees over 500 flights daily. Aside from tourists, Delta execs are also excited about these new flights, which offer convenience, peace of mind, and more business.
“We know Tulum-bound customers will enjoy the elevated experience Delta consistently offers – and now without a two-hour drive from Cancun – as we grow our footprint in Mexico and throughout the Yucatan region,” shared S.V.P. of Network Planning Joe Esposito.
For their inaugural journeys to Tulum, Delta will only offer flights from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. However, this will likely change as more vacationers flock to the hotspot. Before the U.S. to Tulum flights, Aeromexico will begin flights from Mexico City to Tulum in December 2023. Delta flights from Atlanta to Tulum are already on sale.
