For the first time in eight years, Democrats took over the House of Representatives on Thursday, and immediately introduced an article of impeachment against Celebrity-in-Chief Donald Trump.
According to the Daily Mail, Rep. Brad Sherman reintroduced a bill identical to his 2017 proposal, in which he claims Trump obstructed justice in his firing of FBI Director James Comey months after his inauguration. Sherman says Trump’s transgressions include “threatening, and then terminating’ Comey because of his investigation into the now-former National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn.
“There is no reason it shouldn’t be before the Congress,” Sherman told Los Angeles Times. “Every day Donald Trump shows that leaving the White House would be good for our country.”
This will be Sherman’s second attempt in presenting an article of impeachment before Congress, but this time, the fate of the measure rests on the Democrats upon their new control of the House.
However, it remains unclear if other Democrats are on board, as the House Speaker-Designate, Nancy Pelosi, recently announced that she would like to “wait and see what happens with” the special counsel investigation into Russia’s election interference and Trump’s involvement before moving forward with it.
