Democratic members of Congress were denied entry into the U.S. Department of Education, with security guards blocking access and locking the doors as lawmakers attempted to enter the building.
Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) called the move illegal, pointing out that billionaire Elon Musk has reportedly been given access while elected officials were turned away. “They are blocking members of Congress from entering the Department of Education! Elon is allowed in and not the people?” Frost wrote on X. He later stated that armed federal officers were called to the scene, adding, “We aren’t dangerous. We are here to represent our people. To defend public education. This is an authoritarian regime.”
The confrontation comes as Trump is reportedly considering using an executive order to abolish the Department of Education, fulfilling a campaign
